How does therapy work?
A therapy space is held in total confidence, a clinician aims to listen with full intention and attention, and this provides a safe, empathic, witnessing that is in itself powerful. All licensed mental health professionals have training to consider what is happening for a client diagnostically, and, each clinician also has their own unique additional skill set and specialization to continue assessing and formulating and drawing from. For instance if you read Chelsea Handler’s most recent book her psychiatrist tells her she’s an eight on the enneagram because he has this particular training and experience. Personally, I do not so I wouldn’t be talking with you about the enneagram. My training and experience primarily draws on: a psychodynamic understanding (which gives weight to the unconscious, so yes, I want to hear about your dreams); an attachment understanding (meaning how we relate to our social/love/connection dependency needs); and the somatic (how we process and what is unprocessed in our bodies). Then there is a collaboration between client and clinician to name goals and work towards those goals. In my practice I strive to provide a blend of psycho-education, facilitation of integrative experiential sessions, and a whole lot of support for clients creating a process and practice in their lives that lets them move in the direction of their identified goals.
How does video-conference work?
I use a secure platform specifically designed for therapy services. Once a session has been booked I’m then able to email a personalized link that provides access to the online meeting. A primary consideration is if it’s possible to ensure a comfortable and confidential space where there will be no interruptions or distractions.
How long is each session?
I work with clients for 60-minute or 45-minute sessions
How often do we meet?
While many of my clients have a reserved weekly time I’m also able to offer sessions with less frequency and be flexible with scheduling as long as it aligns with the clients therapy needs and goals. My secure client portal allows clients to schedule, cancel, and change their appointments.
What is the cost?
My current rate is $180 per 60-minute and $160 per 45-minute session
How do I pay?
My preferred mode of payment is through the banking app Zelle, a fast and secure bank-to-bank transfer that doesn’t take any fees. Through my secure client portal I’m also able to accept most credit, debit, and health savings cards. I am no longer able to accept checks.
Can I use my insurance?
I am not on any insurance panels, however, many PPO’s offer coverage for out-of-network mental health providers when given a SuperBill which I am able to securely send to clients via my client portal. I am not, however, able to offer SuperBills for couples intensives or group workshops.
What’s the duration of therapy?
This entirely depends on the resources, needs, and goals of the client. While I appreciate working with clients longterm I also believe that effective treatment and change can happen in short term therapy.
